Board Rules
- Be respectful to your fellow players.
- Don't god mod.
- No intentional cheating.
- You cannot kill another PC without the other PCs permission or the sites Founder's approval.
- You may only have one character at a time
- You may freely restart a character. (Please see further guidelines below.)
- You must post at least once in character to receive weekly bonuses for training.
- You need approval by the creator of a custom class to train in that custom class. General classes can be trained without approval.
- When completeing a class or technique training, or a rank promotion, you need a staff member to sign off on your work before you can use it in your trainings.
- Have Fun
Custom Class/Tech Creation Rules
- Decently well written
- Not Inherently god moding
- No stealing directly from other work. Should have some individuality, or at least have different names and back story for the techniques/class. (this includes other classes/techs on this site).
- Must be level 10 to create a custom class/tech.
- You need to recieve staff member approval in this [forum] before you can use a custom class or technique.
Character Restart Rules
Scenario 1: Starting at your current level
- To keep your points, you must permanently retire your old character. Whether you want to kill them off, or just have them disappear is your decision. If this is not your desire, see scenario 2.
- You may restart with ANY combination of classes possessed by your current character or one general class you do not have.
- If you want to start with a new custom class, you may do this, but the class must be trained at the beginning of your new character.
- If training for a new class or classes, points will be put in a Character Restart Layaway until training is finished. Points earned before the first class is fully trained must be put into stats.
- All items, ranks and gold can be kept when switching characters.
Scenario 2: Starting at Level 1
- Your current character becomes a NPC when you create a new character. Their level, techs and items will remain on that character unless otherwise requested.
- If you would like to keep your old character for only a short period of time before removing them permanently, follow Scenario 2 guidelines. When the NPC is permanently retired, the player may receive their points and items left on the NPC, but does not receive Level Bonuses for the additional points. At this time they may create a Character Restart Layaway.
- You may restart with ANY combination of classes possessed by your previous character or one general class you do not have.
- If you want to start with a new custom class, you may do this, but the class must be trained at the beginning of your new character.
- If training for a new class or classes, points earned before the first class is fully trained may be put in to stats or layaway.
- Ranks and gold can be carried over when switching characters. Items can be carried over at user’s discretion, but can not be held on both characters. IE if you take the sword off your old character, they no longer have it.
Board Guidelines
- If you're new, ask questions if you're not sure. We'll help you out.
- Try to keep your signatures small out of respect for other members on the site. If you have questions on what is acceptable please ask. One normal sized sig image with 3 lines of text, is generally considered a good sized sig.
- Try to post your trainings on time.
- If you do post your trainings late, it is appreciated if you provide links to your RPs and bonuses for the weeks you're making up.
Activity
Try to stay active. It is recommended that you try to RP at least once per week. It is a small goal for someone who wants to write, but it is understandable if there are things getting in your way of writing time. Keep in mind that you must RP at least once per week to receive any training points. IC and OCC inactivity for greater than three weeks will get your sheet removed to the inactive list and you must request that it be added back to the active list upon return. If you are fully sure you'll be gone longer than three weeks, tell us in advance, publicly, privately, doesn't matter, so we can move your sheet to the inactives list in advance and make a note of it. This is preferrable because people will know why your sheet is on the inactives list.
Language
You are free to use harsh language in your RPs as long as it isn't tasteless and belongs where it is, but overuse of swear words simply makes your writing, for lack of a better word, stupid. Sevidical Language in the OOC board isn't regulated very strictly, however there are limits to everything. Be aware that your words hold the power to insult others, use them with care so that we don't need to take steps to restrict free discussion on our forums. Continuing to use such sevidical language after you have been asked to 'tone it down' (or stop, depending on what you're saying) will result in a warning. Remember folks: Don't let four letter words become your crutch.
Training
Training is handled through the [board] on the [forums]. In order to be eligible for training you must have roleplayed at least once during the week. It does not need to be very long, even a couple of paragraphs would suffice. However if your RP is 500 words or more then you qualify for the RP training bonus of 5 or more points.
Training Guides
- Standard SH:AE Training Guide and Brief F.A.Q. on the subjects of Training
- Alternate guides to come.
Spam
Spam is usually defined quite a bit differently on SH:AE; Spam on our forums usually doesn't come in the form of outside advertisers --while there are the occasional breaches in the join forum (the only forum where guests are allowed to post)-- instead, what we mean by 'spam' are posts in an Out of Character thread that are intensely zany and off-topic that bring the thread outside of what it was originally created to discuss. You won't get in any trouble for a few wayward posts but if it's obviously all out spam, your ass is grass. NOTE: Some threads allow for general Zaniness and 'spam', but in other threads it's still not appropriate to get way off topic, hijack threads, or generally annoy people.
Penalties
As with all rules, there are penalties. Warnings actually require up to 4 violations to be obtained. Depending on the severity of your action you may receive anywhere from 1 to 4 points that will accumulate to finally count as a full warning. If what you have done is bad enough you may instantly be put to full warning status.
1 warning: -150 points from a random stat.
2 warnings: -300 points from a random stat and -1,000 gold. If you don't have the money, you lose an item of equal or closer worth.
3 warnings: -600 points from a random stat, -4,000 gold, and temporary 2 week ban (including suspended training).
4 warnings: If you haven't learned by now then you just have to hit the road. Upon completion of your 4th warning (which is 16 points altogether) your character will be terminated and you will be ejected from our community.
Here is a list of other things that will get you warned in an awful hurry:
- Religious Discussion of any type will generally result in an immediate warning. Particularly if the discussion becomes aggressive or inflammatory.
- Political discussion is accepted on a passive, objective and polite basis, but threads designed for the purpose of discussing only politics will --as with religious discussion-- earn you a ticket to see the warden in the Warning Board.
- Disrespecting your fellow members, flaming and insult in any serious degree will not be tolerated. Friendly jabs and cheeky banter are fine, but at a certain point someone is going to end up warned. It should be noted that more often than not the person responsible for instigating the flaming is just as likely to be warned, even if he or she is not guilty of directly flaming someone.
- This is big: Disrespectful behavior towards the staff is highly frowned upon and jokes can easily be taken the wrong way. The staff works very hard and do all work for SHAE on their own time and volition. If you notice a problem with your roster entry, for example, explain the problem and ask that it be rectified. The staff will do their best to get to it in a timely manner, but if they don't a friendly reminder is the best course of action, getting belligerent and insulting is NOT!
- Creating a 'copy' of a thread that has been closed. While it is considered to be good manners for the mod in question to give a reason for closing a thread it is not a requirement. If you feel a staff member is being abusive Notify Shonor, but tattling every time a staff member is having a bad day is generally rude. Threads in The Points Question, Training and Contest forum are always closed upon completion.
- Generally being a jerk wears thin on the nerves of the community at large, and the staff will eventually take action if you unfriendly behavior continues for long.
- God Moding, whether noticed by the staff or reported by a member, is intolerable in our community! Although occasional necessary to move along a large Saga, the practice of resorting to even minor degrees of God Moding for any reason legitimate or not, is frowned upon. A single valid report of God Moding may earn you two things. One, at least a single warning, the staff may warn retroactively for multiple events. Just because you got away with it once, doesn't mean the staff won't take a look back at old posts and threads, as you can imagine this could earn you a fast expulsion from the community entirely. Two, the staff is going to watch your posting very closely from that point forward, expect to be judged more harshly and given less room after you've been warned for this offense.
General Information
Classes
Probably the most important part of your character creation is the class. With over 30 classes (and growing) to choose from you'll be deciding for a while, but don't worry; if you see something you like in different classes you can later train for additional classes. You will keep all of the stats and skills from your previous class and you will still be able to train those skills. Good luck keeping up with 2 skill sets though. Take your time with this to make sure you get the right character for you. NOTE: To create a custom class you must be tenth level or greater.
Alignment
The measurement of your character's moral fibre. Depending on your actions (or your preference) you can go from purely evil to a complete angel. Not the final deciding factor in your character creation, but important as you progress through the world of Sword's Honor. Your alignment can change as you play.
Techniques
This is sort of a subgroup of class since your techs (as they are more commonly referred as) will come with it when you choose one. There are 3 levels of techniques, each one successively more powerful - and more tiring - than the last. They each require a higher amount of points to increase the level and so are harder to level up. Here is a list of requirements from weakest to strongest:
- Enkisei: 10 points per level
- Seisei: 30 points per level
- Tokudan: 40 points per level
Referral Section
To increase members here at SH:AE we are starting a new program, the Referral program. For every member who joins and give you credit for referring them to SH:AE you shall recieve 50 pts once they post 5 times in the main board or complete a minimum of five spars or tasks. Once this is done you shall recieve your 10pts for their activity. Also you must be the one to watch their progress and in your training you must place a link with all 5 of their posts in it.
