Overview

This "Official" Unofficial Official Sword Honor Another Era Wiki Style Guide is intended to educate our frequent page editors about certain things that we'd like to see (at least where applicable).

Categories

Rule 1!

Everything has a Category and everything in its Category!

...Kind of.

We, at SH:AE, are quite aware of the fact that it's not necessarily right to make a category for every obscure, one-off page that really doesn't warrant a category of its own. Well...Wait a minute, fella', for one if a page is of an obscure subject matter and it doesn't belong in any other category you need to ask yourself if it belongs on the wiki at all. However that's not necessarily healthy thinking, either, because as an editor of content and a member of the community what you think matters to us! So start thinking about the page you're adding, if there is a potential that more material of its type can be created then go right ahead and make a category for it! In fact, while you're at it, start making other material to fit into that category. That's the wiki snowball effect!

Sub-categories

Remember rule 1? Good you're paying attention...Or you know how to use Control+F, either way you knew or now know Rule 1.

Well Rule 1 applies, generally speaking, to some Categories in of themselves and can be categorized. These are called "Sub-Categories", and they're all over the place. Feel free to add something you feel is a "Sub-Category" to a greater category to make things easier to find for users browsing our content.

Seeing Red

Rule 2!

We're like bulls, here at SH:AE, we hate the color red...or...well okay we mean Maroon, but it's a shade of red so our prejudice extends to all of its neighboring shades in this instance. Those Pesky little Red links you see all over the place are just an eyesore! So Rule 2 is: NO RED LINKS! In fact, we prefer to see rule two written in red...Or Blue because we don't like to see red...Anyway, you get the idea. If you see a "Red Link" do your part to turn it blue! Kind of like (Political Humor Removed), hahaha! Oh...I don't like you mister censor (Following Comment Censored)...HEY!

I'm Lonely

Rule 3! ... and Rule 4!

SH:AE is a community of friends...well kind of, but that's neither here nor...well it's there but it isn't here so pay attention. Rule 3 is: No Dead Ends! And we don't leave a man...Okay we leave those jerks behind all the time, but we never leave a page behind! Rule 4 is: No Orphans! Actually, the wiki even calls them lonely! It knows their plight...and it knows there are too many!

On SH:AE we make sure that there is some page linking to any given page and that those pages are linking to other pages. It's like...actually it is a pyramid scheme, so don't wreck it for the top of the pyramid you bottom-row guys! Link-to and link-from!

Form and Function

Rule 5!

We're anal-retentive, obsessive compulsive disorder having, overly order conscious people here on SH:AE (actually it's generally a joining requirement). Being those kind of people we like everything to (generally speaking) look very similar, particularly when there are a lot of similar pages to be created. So, that said, Rule 5 is Use Templates! ...whenever possible. If there isn't a template and there are a lot of the same kind of page...then make one!

Don't know how to use a template? That's okay, the OUoSH:AESG Committee thought ahead! Mosey on over to our Editing Help section and watch our Templates Instructional Video!

Fill it out

Rule 6! ...And contradictory Rule 7!

Though Anal-retentive and Severely O.C.D we also are the kinds of people who have extreme A.D.D. (Or "Oh lookathatshinythingoverthere!" to be more accurate) and being those kind of people...We don't always finish what we start. That's why there is this little wiki staple known as a Stub. We hate "stubbing" things, though, which brings us to the conundrum of Rule 6 Fill out the Stubs (or "Unstubbing" as we like to say in our own way)...

And Rule 6 brings us to Rule 7, a direct contradiction to rule 6. Because we on SH:AE like our shiny things...and other less important activities such as making money and being with people who loves us...we know it's not always possible to fill out an entire page. Time was running short, you saw a rabbit, someone brought in a kitty, or you just went on a "Bull Spree" (That's what we call obsessively following Rule 2)...Rule 7 is Stub it!

i r smert

Rule 8!

Okay, we're somewhat...Fickle about our spelling on SH:AE, maybe not so strict about serious English Grammar, but spelling is important (See the notes in Rule 5 about O.C.D. and Anal-Retentiveness)! Moreover we don't take kindly to 'internet speak', 'g33k sp3@k' or 'gamahhh tawwwwk', especially in our pages and articles. Granted the worst you'll get is a fifteen syllable word hurled your way and the indignity of someone making a...*cringe* "Minor Edit" for you, but it's best to follow Rule 8 Spell Check! anyway.

Chill, Homey

Rule 9! and... Rule 10!

If you've read this entire Style Guide, and I certainly hope you have, if you haven't...well it won't matter will it because you'll just get banned!...No I'm kidding, but you might get directed to this page at some point if you haven't read it...Where was I? Oh yeah... If you've read this entire style guide (or the lacktherof) you'll notice that very little style was actually observed (and taste for that matter, zing!)...More importantly you'll notice how utterly casual it is. Rule 9 is Relax, don't take anything too serious and you won't forget that what the community is all about --or at least strives to be-- is the game...Actually, that's really Rule AlphaOmega here on SH:AE, it goes beyond the style guide, and it applies to everything. Follow Rule 9/AlphaOmega and you'll have a good experience.

So if you forget that see Rule 10 Time Out! We hope Rule 10 will never, ever have to be used, but we've come close on more than one occasion throughout the history of SH:AE and to maintain the atmosphere we're striving to maintain we aren't afraid to exercise it. A "Time Out" means the that the train is leaving the station without you, and damn it...That train has cake on it! So don't be left off the train, because we want that group photo...You know the one...the one where you have cake on your face.
