Joining Up

Q: How do I join?
A: You must read the join page and then fill out the Join Form.

Q: Can I have more than one character?
A: No.

Q: How much GP (gold) do I start with?
A: 50 gp.

Q: How many points do I start with?
A: 200 pts

Q: I haven't joined yet, will you reply to my suggestions?
A: We apologize, but we do not approve ideas until you have joined.

Q: Ok, I've joined. When do I get added to the roster?
A: After your first training.

Q: Can I use the sample RP I made in my joining thread in a RP topic after I join?
A: Knock yourself out.

Alignment

Q:What the heck is an Alignment?
A:Every Player Character and Non-Player Character on SH:AE has an Alignment, upon Character Creation the Player Will choose one of our Five Alignments to classify at a glance how he or she believes and acts. While we do not strictly monitor or even expect Player Characters to adhere to their Alignment at all times, it is nice for other Players to know where your Character stands in the grand scheme of things.

Q:Okay so I get Alignment, but why can't I choose two? Like "Chaotic Neutral", for example?
A:On SH:AE the Alignments are designed to each represent the viewpoints that exist in most of the societies found in the SH:AE Setting. Because most of these represent opposing ideals (E.G. Wicked versus Righteous, Chaotic versus Lawful) and it wouldn't make too much sense to fight someone who is both Lawful and Wicked. Moreover we feel that it betrays the notion of "Neutrality" to be Chaotic/Lawful and Neutral, at least in the sense that they are defined in the SH:AE setting. While it is possible that additional, "Gray Area" alignments find their way into the setting in the future, we the staff feel that the five we now have represent a significant and varied cross section of play-style and society in our setting.

Q:Whoa, wait a minute, five Alignments? I thought there were only three?
A:Well then you were probably here back in the 'old days', and haven't been around for a while. Relatively Recently (Late '08) 2 other alignments (Wicked and Righteous) were added to further represent a more broad cross section of Character-types and play-styles.

Training

Q: When do I get to train?
A: Friday.

Q: Do I have to do anything to train?
A: You must roleplay at least once during the week and then post a link to your roleplay in your training post.

Q: I did two spars but didn't post on the mian board, does that count?
A: No.

Q: How much GP (gold) do I get each week?
A: 50 gp.

Q: How many points do I get each week?
A: 20 pts.

Q: How I train?
A: Watch the Training Guide Videos, and check out the pinned threads in the training forum. Contact staff for additional questions on the specifics of training if your questions aren't answered by the video, FAQ or pinned threads.

Q: With the 20 points you get each week, can you place them in both your techniques or stats, or just one or the other?
A: Both.

Q: What happens when I level up?
A: You get an extra 20 points.

Q: When do I level up?
A: The progression is found Here.

Q: I just posted in my own storyline, can I still train? Or do I have to wait for next week?
A: You can still train this week. Sunday is the cut off for training, Friday is the cut off for RP bonus.

Q: How many points does it take to raise a technique a level?
A: It takes 10 pts to raise an Enkisei tech, 30 pts to raise a SeiSei tech, and 40 pts to raise a Tokudan tech.

Q: I forgot to train and it's after Sunday, can I still train?
A: If it is before the training has been updated, then you will likely be forgiven. If the next batch of training has started then tough luck.

Q: What if I make a mistake?
A: Various people patrol the Training forum and will usually help you out if you do; don't take it the wrong way if they point something simple out like a calculation error. The Webmaster who is in charge of updating the site will usually be the one to comment.

Q: Will I always be checked for errors?
A: No. Too many people and not enough time. If an error is caught later on, it can be dealt with.

Q: I made a boo-boo; I added up my Techs/Attributes and it doesn't match my point total! What do I do?
A: Notify the staff, your training will eventually be seen by someone so this is usually the best way to notify. If you have more points when you add up your Techs/Attributes the actual total is now your PT Total, if you don't have as many as you think you should have the problem will be investigated and dealt with. Eventually calculation errors will occur somewhere down the line, don't be embarrassed by it.

Shopping

Q: How do I buy items?
A: Create a post of your character purchasing the item you want in the Shopping board. Be sure to add the item to your next training and subtract the correct amount of gold.

Q: Do any purchases have to be "congruent" with what our character is currently doing?
A: No.

Q: I want to have my character work in a shop. To be a laborer in a shop, do you have to find a PC shop-owner or can you work for an NPC?
A: Either or. It does not matter. It's all up to you, the player.

Q: How many weapons may I "Equip" {Symbolized with a "(E)"}?
A: Three. See below for "Dual Wielding".

Q: Can I have two weapons equipped at the same time? (This question refers to "Dual Wielding")
A: Only with a few specific techniques. Else you can only have one weapon equipped.

Q: Why can't I have Gauntlets and a Sword equipped at the same time?
A: Because they are two different types of weapons. You can only have one weapon equipped at once.

Sparring

Q: I wanna spar!
A: Go to the Spar board and request a spar.

Q: Do I have to be close to be the person on the main board?
A: No.

Q: Can I be killed in a spar?
A: No, but you can be killed in a Deathmatch, see Spar Guide

Guilds

Q: Can I make a guild?
A: Yes, but first you need three members.

Q: What is the use of having a guild?
A: A guild is an alliance of members who stand together. They are your posse that guards your back, dawg.

Q: Can my guild have an army?
A: Yes.

Q: How do I get an army?
A: Once your guild buys a building (House, Castle, Town, etc), you can add troops to your guild each week with training.

Q: Can I be in two guilds at once?
A: No.[1]

Updating

Q: I trained on Friday, when does the roster get updated?
A: Roster updates on default are now up to the members, since they are freely allowed to edit their own roster on the wiki. If you do not wish to update your own roster you can request Evren to do it freely for you.

Q: I want to change my character's description/bio/quote, how do I do that?
A: The new wiki format allows you a great deal of flexibility in updating your character sheet. Simply click on the edit link at the top of your roster page and edit your description/bio/update. Refer to Editing Help for some advice on editing wikis.

Q: Um... My roster is wrong. Can you fix it?
A: Sure, if you don't wish to fix it yourself, contact a staff member and they will do it for you.

Q: Can I edit anything then on my roster page?
A: No. Obviously points, inventory, ranks, and classes should be the same in your roster as in your training post. The exact structure of how they're laid out you can manipulate if you so desire, but all that information should be there and correct.

Roleplaying

Q: Can my character be in two places at once?
A: No, not on the main roleplay board. You may however be in a mission, the shop and a thread on the main rp board at the same time.

Q: If I’m not in a saga, can I still roleplay?
A: Yes. You may open a private thread, or you can ask others (through Private Messages for example) if you can join their threads.

Q: Can I roleplay in two threads at once?
A: No.

Sagas

Q: What is a saga?
A: A saga is a large, staff run storyline.

Q: Do I have to join sagas?
A: No.

Q: What is the benefit of joining a saga?
A: The staff often make the sagas huge in hopes of keeping the member's enjoyment. It also is a great way to roleplay your character without having to think of a plot. Also often substantional rewards are given to the participants of sagas.

Q: Do I get points for being in a saga?
A: Yes, but the number depends upon the staff member.

Customizing

Q: The classes are really nice, can I have a second one?
A: Yes, but you must roleplay your character training for each technique and then ask for the staff's approval.

Q: How long does it take to get another class?
A: As long as it takes. Long detailed posts are required for each technique. However, whether it takes you a day to write them all or weeks doesn't matter.

Q: The classes are really nice, but can I create my own?
A: Yes, but first you must reach lvl 10.

Q: Can I use one of the created personal classes?
A: You have to ask the creator of the class and they may say no. Often people have specific story reasons for their custom classes, and are hestitant to allow others to take them for that reason.

Q: Can I create my own techniques without creating my own class?
A: Yes, but you must first have the technique approved and then roleplay your character training for the technique.

Q: Cool! Is there a level restriction on that as well?
A: We're less strict regarding Custom Techniques, however we prefer that a player has a good grasp of game balance prior to submitting content for approval, and thus we may ask new players to wait until levels 4-8 on a case-by-case basis. The more complex the idea, the more likely we are to impose this.

Q: Can I create my own weapon?
A: Yes, but you must have it approved first by the staff and they will tell you how you can acquire such a weapon, usually depending on your RPing skill. See also Unique Item Guide on that particular subject.

Ranks

Q: How do I get a rank?
A: To attain a rank, you must complete the tasks listed with the description of the desired rank, and must do it with enough roleplaying to merit the earned rank. Caution, rank promotions require a significant amount of roleplaying, especially for the higher ranks.

Q: Can I change rank?
A: Yes.

Q: Can I have two ranks?
A: Yes, you can have as many ranks as you want (only one from the same rank structure though of course).

Forum Ranks

Q: What is a forum rank?
A: Your forum rank is given to you depending on how much you post. The more posts on the main board, the higher your forum rank.

Q: I'm posting in the mind warp, but my post count doesn't go up. What gives?
A: Your post count goes up only when you post in the RP Forum (the main forum).

Q: Why do I care what my forum rank does?
A: The forum ranks gives you a few bonuses. When you are new and your forum rank is lower, it gives you the Novice's Bonus. When it becomes larger, it gives you a bonus to your GP.

Q: Ok, so what's the Novice's Bonus?
A: Check the Boosts section of the FAQ.

Q: Ok then, how is the other bonus determined.
A: The higher your forum rank, the more gold. It is seen here.

Boosts

Q: What is the RP Bonus?
A: The RP Bonus is the staff's gift to active roleplayers. If you roleplay a good amount during the week, you are given points and gold as a reward. The more you roleplay, the more you get.

Q: What are Magical Weights?
A: Magical Weights are a training booster. They give you 40 points weekly instead of 20. They also cut your stats in half while you have them equipped.

Q: Oooo, so how many points do I get for leveling up with Magical Weights?
A: 40 pts.

Q: What is an Ascension?
A: An Ascension is a powerful technique which increases stats. It's a transformation.

Q: How do I get an Ascension?
A: Ascensions have been given out during big sagas, but just because you are in a saga, doesn't mean you will get one or even one will be given out. There will be more methods for attaining ascensions in the future.

Q: Can you tell me what the Novice Bonus is now?
A: While you have either Novice or Apprentice forum ranks, you will receive an extra 10 pts during weekly training. When you reach adept, that bonus will be lowered to 5 pts. Once you become an Expert, the bonus is gone. Described here.

Q: Wait, what is this ironman bonus?
A: The ironman bonus is for active members who roleplay constant enough to receive an RP Bonus for five weeks periods. The longer you continue, the larger the bonus becomes. Desribed here.

The Boards

Q: What are the size limits for sigs?
A: There isn't a limit, but please do not make it too large. A single normal sized signature and three lines of text are generally considered the upper limit of what is considerate.

Q: Is there a limit on how many posts I can make in a single day?
A: No O_o post as much as you want. If you want to train on Fridays you have to RP at least once.

Q: My girlfriend just cheated on me and-
A: Post it in the Mind Warp.

Q: I have a really funny joke. Can I tell it do you?
A: Post it in the Mind Warp Board

Q: Can I show you a sig I made?
A: Post it in the Museum of Art. Also, beware of constructive criticism.

Q: How can I get one of those snazzy sigs that I see everywhere?
A: Request one in the Request forum in the Museum of Art.

Q: What's a Points Question?
A: When a staff member is feeling generous or bored, they will post a points question. If you get it right first, you get points.

Q: This staff member isn't replying to my PMs, why not?
A: Sometimes people get busy in real life and don't get time to check SH:AE. That or they haven't noticed. If this happens try asking another staff member.

Q: I have a really important question-
A: I'm sorry, I had to get the phone. Were you saying something?

The Site

Q: Will you affiliate my RPG Site?
A: Contact the Webmaster through direct Email or leave him a message somewhere where he can find it.

Q: I wanna know something that isn’t here.
A: Read the site. If you still can’t find it, feel free to ask a question. We won’t kill you, we promise.

Q: What are the size restrictions for our roster page images?
A: Small. If it is large a thumbnail linking to the image's lager size will be made.

Extras

Q: Where did you get these questions?
A: They are actual questions asked in the forums.
